Miss North Dakota Teen USA across my chest was a wonderful experience of community, commitment, and courage. I realized that any girl, with confidence in one hand and coffee in the other, can achieve her dreams. Whether playing with kindergarteners on the floor, shaking the hand of a sponsor, or listening to the elderly, I had been gifted a platform to reach people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. Throughout my year of reign, I worked to become the best “me” possible both in the cockpit (pilot) and under the crown. Being Miss North Dakota Teen USA challenged me to become a girl with a mind, a woman with conviction, and a lady with class.

As Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA 2020, I reached an unconditional love for exactly who I am. I spent my whole life being afraid of expressing my Asian-American background, until I found the Miss USA Organization. I proved that no one should be ashamed of their heritage, nor should it lower their self-confidence. Standing on the Miss Teen USA stage surrounded by 50 other confidently beautiful contestants, was truly empowering. I met the most amazing girls, and made friendships that will last a lifetime. The Miss Teen USA competition is a true representation of the beautiful diversity in our country.

Holding this title taught me so much about myself and everyone around me. It taught me skills that I will carry with me throughout my life and the memories I made will last a lifetime. Having this title through COVID-19, showed me how much you can change someone’s life with small random acts of kindness and volunteering as much as you can. Competing and holding this title is not about yourself, it is about helping the people around you and shining your light on others.
